What’s unlikely about my Suspects (aka cards) in today’s Blog Post? Well, I knew I wanted to make a few Easter cards, so I looked through my current stash for Easter related stamps and sentiments, but no dice. I didn’t have a single cute Easter bunny or anything spiritual relating to Easter. Now, I’m not very much of a “think outside of the box” kind of person. I like my little box – square and perfectly spaced on all sides. However, I did go back through my stamp sets and looked for something that might pass for Easter, and Wildly Happy fit the bill. While this stamp set is probably meant for welcoming a baby into the world because that’s what the sentiments suggest, it can also pass for Easter Bunnies in a pinch.
I stamped and colored the bunnies with blends markers and used another unlikely suspect, the Umbrella Builder Punch, to punch out a backdrop for the bunnies. I reached for my Stitched So Sweetly dies to crop the rectangle with a scalloped edge. If you don’t have these dies, I strongly suggest you purchase them before they retire! Not only do they have cool shapes and layering capabilities for sentiments, they have multi-sized stitched, scalloped rectangles that can be used in a number of different ways too. I thought a potted plant would be suitable to finish out the scene so I used one from the Welcoming Window bundle.
My next unlikely suspect was the DSP I chose for some of my backgrounds. Who would have thought the Ice Cream Corner DSP would have something I could use for Easter in it? All I can say is thank goodness for Paper Shares! Honestly, I wouldn’t have looked twice at that DSP to order it, because it’s just not my style. But, because I joined a paper share and received 2 pieces of each design of all of the DSP in the January-June Mini Catalog, I had lots to choose from. The two pieces I chose from Ice Cream Corner are total opposites and gave me totally different looks for the same card design.
I liked this design so well, I made several more cards just switching out the color of the bunnies and DSP. I used a coordinating piece of DSP for the umbrella or colored it with matching blends. Oh, and for the sentiment, “Happy Easter,” it was from a retired set called “Welcome Easter.” It was pretty big and long and wouldn’t fit where I needed it to, so I clipped it right in the middle and made it two words. I’m never afraid to do this because if you ever need to use it in the original form, it fits together perfectly to stamp in one piece again.
Today’s take away:
When you’re ordering stamp sets, try to look past what the set is intended for to see other ways you can use it. More bang for the buck.
Always join a Paper Share when offered (preferably mine)! Good variety for less money; reduced guilt for hoarding paper.
