Elegantly Said

Writer's picture: Kim WebbKim Webb

I don’t think they could’ve given this new stamp set a better name if they tried! It is indeed very elegant, but what sold me was the beautiful Specialty Designer Series Paper, Simply Elegant, and of course the sentiment punch. I’m a sucker for both.

The first thing I did when I received this Suite in my first pre-order was to cut a piece of scrap card stock to 1 ¾” and fit it into the punch and figure out how to punch both ends of the paper with the decorative edge. I didn’t care for the punch used vertically with the “knob” at the top or bottom. I wanted it horizontal with knobs on each end – it’s just a me thing. This was the first card I made using the DSP, Punch, Stamp Set and Decorative Trim – the entire suite.

I used a small piece of copper paper and ran it through the Hammered Metal embossing folder to add a little texture. I heat embossed the sentiment using our copper embossing powder which matches the flowers in the paper, although I couldn’t get the photo to capture that. This card was so-so for me, and I knew I could do better.

The next card I made evolved from a Mystery Stamping Challenge with my team. One person gives clues throughout the day, and you make a card based on what you interrupt from the clues. This card came together in about 20 minutes. It’s the fastest I’ve ever made a Mystery Card, and I give all the credit to the beautiful paper I chose to work with.

After our virtual team meeting with the Mystery Stamping ended at 9:00 pm, I was totally stoked to try another card using this suite. It was like my mind kept picturing, “Oh, I can do this… or I can do this… and I can even do this…” It was crazy, but I ended up making my favorite card on the third try. It’s nothing fancy, but it is very elegant – like the name says.

I simply stamped Basic Gray ink onto Very Vanilla card stock using the big corner stamp included in the Elegantly Said stamp set, and the sentiment “True Love Stories Last Forever”, also included, fit perfectly between the two corners. My reason for wanting the stamp set instead of just purchasing the paper and the punch was because I loved the sentiment and font used in “Have a Wonderful Birthday.” I do still love that sentiment, but the corner stamp and the flower stamp in the set are my favorites because they stamp so smoothly and pack a big punch.

I went on to make one more card that night for 2 reasons (even though it was a work night, I had no dinner, and it was time for bed)

  • Reason 1 - I had already die cut a couple of pieces of Specialty Silver Paper using the Forever Flourishing dies that I was going to use on my Mystery Card, but I ended up not needing them. You know you can’t waste the specialty paper, right?

  • Reason 2 – because I still had designs in my mind and who can sleep with all of that going on?! After this card, I went to bed!

The new catalog goes live on May 4 and I can't wait to see the beautiful cards everyone makes with the new products. I have a BOGO sale going on now through the end of May where if you spend $25 at my online store, you can choose a gently used stamp set for free. Spend $50 and you can choose a bundle (stamp set and coordinating die or punch) from my collection shown on my page Gift With Purchase. I hope you will shop with me soon.

Take care and happy crafting!

Kim
