I was fortunate enough to see fellow demonstrator Rachel Tessman showing how to make Pocket Cards this week. I've been wanting to make one ever since a customer showed an interest in this particular design. The one Rachel was demonstrating was just my style - neat, clean and easy, so I paid attention and wrote a couple of measurements down. She was actually C.A.S.E-ing a team member's card she received in a card swap, so I didn't think she'd mind if I C.A.S.E-d hers as well. I changed a couple of measurements on the card insert because I wanted to make sure mine was super easy to "pull" out of the pocket envelope. I liked the design so much that I ended up making 4 of them over the last 2 evenings. I think this is my favorite one:
I used Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper on all 4 of my cards because it was new to me this week, and I really loved it. It wasn't on my original "list" but all it took was seeing one demonstrator showcasing a project using it, and bam, I was hooked. I'm leaning on the Poinsettia Petals bundle again for this card because I just couldn't resist seeing it with the Painted Christmas DSP. It made a lovely card, and I'm thinking about offering it along with the other pocket cards I made in a kit before the holidays are here and gone. Surely there are other "last minute" folks out there besides me!
Also new to me this week was the Tidings and Trimmings bundle. So of course I wanted to use it with the new DSP. When I saw the two star shapes in the dies, I immediately thought of a grapevine wreath kind of star. I know you've seen them around. I thought it would look really good with the pine needles and pine cones design in the DSP, so I put the two together and came up with my next card:
I used the In Color Evening Evergreen ribbon to accent the star and added a little bling with the berries die, also included in the bundle. I thought it was a nice compliment to the other all natural elements.
I'm a relatively new Stampin' Up! demonstrator, so I didn't have any stockings in my arsenal, hence another selling point for me when I decided to purchase the Tidings and Trimmings bundle this late in the season. The bundle comes with 2 different stamp images of stockings and one solid die to cut them out. On the middle stocking, I didn't like the way the cuff of the stocking stamped, so I die cut a solid white stocking and cut it off at the cuff to add to my stamped and die cut image. Next time, I'll stamp the leafy stocking and then cut if off at the cuff because it will have a little stitched look from the stamp. The white top of the stockings gave me some real estate to add some embellishments. The holly leaves and berries and stars are part of the dies in the bundle too.
It's a lovely bundle, and I'm glad I bought it and the beautiful paper.
Last but not least, I used the Bright Baubles bundle to make the 4th card. I love the two word dies in this bundle with "Joy" being my favorite. I have several Christmas decorations with the word Joy as the main focus. My lovely daughter bought some wooden letters at Hobby Lobby and hand painted a whimsy motif on them for a Christmas gift for me several years ago. I loved it!
Which card is your favorite? I still have several packs of paper from the free SAB brochure that I'd love to give away before Christmas. I'll pull two names from the comments on this blog post and send the winners a pack of DSP on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Check back on my website at www.justpaperllc.com to see what other last minute card kits I'll add to sell in November. I'm betting the Bright Baubles will be one of them!
Thanks for reading my blog and have a great time crafting in your space.
